Winter is almost here. Soon, the holiday shopping will begin and that means a lot of time outdoors. Skin care takes a back seat as we enjoy the thanksgiving & christmas with family & friends.

Here are some simple steps to keep the skin glowing & in top health during the winter days.

1. Bring in the Humidifier: The heated air from the heater keeps circulating inside the house and this is pretty dry & fry stuff. This has a devastating effect on your gentle skin. So, a humidifier is a must during the dry winter days.

2. Frequent moisturizing:

  • The more oil a moisturizer contains the more effectively it protects against moisture loss.
  • Ointments contain the most oil because an ointment, by definition, consists of 80% oil and 20% water.
  • This water-in-oil emulsion forms a protective layer on the skin and makes it more “moisturizing” than creams and lotions.
  • Ointments should not be used on areas of the body that tend to get hot and sweaty.

3. Before Going Outside in Winter:

  • Apply a heavy layer of moisturizing broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to the face, hands, and any other skin that may be exposed.

  • This will act as a barrier to help protect against the harsh elements and is especially important if you will be outside for any length of time.

  • Use the gloves and face cap: Make sure the gloves & face cap are made from material that does not irritate your skin.

4. Dress in layers: Wear loose cotton clothings as the first layer & then keep on adding layers as you need. This will help you to take off unwanted layers as you wish

5. Shed wet clothes and shoes immediately. These can irritate the skin and cause a flare-up.

Apart from these external measures, your diet also needs to adjust:

6. keep on drinking as much water as you can

7. Avoid soda & caffeine

8. Chicken & Corn soup will do wonders

9. Hot chocolate at night might be a good idea for kids, pregnant to-be moms & aged

people

10. Use olive Oil for cooking & massage also.

That’s all for now.

Cheers & healthy living.
